DigiMusic 2020: Rules & Submission Summary*

 

The Challenge

Work as an individual or a group of up to four students to compose a musical score to work in conjunction with one of the four provided video clips. 

This challenge is open to musicians and composers of all varieties; therefore we will accept entries in a variety of formats.  Whether you use BandLab/GarageBand, prefer to send us sheet notation, or want to record your classical piano solo on a mobile device, we want you to use your talent and new knowledge to create an awesome soundtrack. 

Criteria*

- Compose music that is appropriate for the clip.
- Does the sound evoke what is happening in the scene?
- Does the music reinforce what is happening in the scene, the storytelling, and the narrative?
- Does the music change as the mood in the clip changes?

Important Dates*

  • Submission period for the DigiMusic Challenge will run from 12:00 PM PT, June 16, 2020 to
    11:59 PM PT, July 31, 2020

Rules*

  • Students may enter as an individual or as teams of up to four

  • Open to students between Grade 7 and Grade 12

  • Must be a resident of British Columbia

  • Only one entry per video clip per person or team

  • Entries must be original work and must not contain part or whole resubmissions of previous years' entries

Submission Process*

1. Download and complete the submission form

2. Complete a form for each composition and ensure you have named your file in the correct format:

VideoClipName_SubmissionDate(YYYYMMDD)_Team or Individual Name

 Example: Homeworld3_20200429_SalmonArmAngels
 

3. Send your files via https://wetransfer.com to education@digibc.org with the correct filename format

Incentive Prizes*

If you submit your music entry by the deadline, you will be entered in a draw to win one of five prize packages featuring some incredible music and recording equipment! Each package has a:
